Dom, I set up the new half table and it is superb. You did a fantastic job! I am practicing every day so I can get my “Golden Arm” at the California Hotel in Dec — one hour roll. Held the dice for 56 minutes in Apr 2015. Working hard on what I learned last month.

Why Two Pieces Beat One

A single practice rig teaches you the motion. Two pieces teach you the motion over the distance you will actually throw — and distance is where a controlled throw is won or lost. Across a short toss the dice simply do not have time to misbehave; across a real one they do, which is precisely why you want to see it at home rather than discover it with money on the layout.

Pairing the Half Craps Table with the Golden Touch Throwing Station closes that gap. You stand and deliver from a padded regulation rail, and the dice travel a true distance before landing on a full-size layout against genuine pyramid rubber. Dom's own assessment: with both pieces you have 98% of what a full craps table gives you, without needing a room big enough to hold one — at roughly half the price of any full-size table.

What Each Piece Contributes

The two halves solve different halves of the problem:

  • The throwing station is the input. Very secure metal legs, a rail strong enough to sit on, and thick padding on the arm rest so it feels like a casino rail under your forearm. It fixes where you stand and how your hand travels — the two things that make a delivery repeatable. Assembles in under three minutes.
  • The half table is the feedback. Regulation height, genuine back-wall pyramids, and the same full-size layout used on the full-size tables. Where the dice land — from the back wall out 18 inches — the top is 1.5 inches thick, matching a casino craps table for a true bounce, while the rest steps down to 3/4 inch so one person can still fold the legs and store it. No assembly required.

Both pieces are built by a master carpenter from the highest-quality birch plywood, autographed and dated by "The Dominator", and made in the USA.

Setting Up Your Practice Space

Position the throwing station and half table at a fixed, realistic distance and mark the floor. Consistency of distance matters more than the exact number: if the gap changes between sessions, you can never tell whether your throw improved or the setup did. Both pieces fold or break down, so the set stores flat between sessions instead of claiming a room permanently.

Give yourself enough space behind the throwing station to deliver a full stroke without shortening it. A shortened stroke is a different throw, and practising one while intending the other is the most common way home practice fails to transfer.

A Practice Session That Actually Measures Something

  1. One dice set per session. Switching constantly makes progress impossible to read.
  2. Fixed pre-throw routine. Same stance, grip, breath and delivery every time — the routine is what survives casino noise.
  3. Throw in blocks. Short focused sets beat an hour of tired repetition that grooves faults.
  4. Judge the landing, not the numbers. On-axis dice finishing together in the same zone is the skill; the numbers are the by-product.
  5. Record and analyse. Logged throws are the only honest evidence of influence — which is what Smart Craps exists to evaluate.

Practise with regulation casino dice so the feel and reaction match the real thing, and add the Golden Touch Gripper if your grip still drifts between throws.

How This Compares to the Other Practice Setups

  • Half table on its own — the full-size layout and casino-thickness landing area, without the throwing rail. Covered in our half craps table guide.
  • Throwing & receiving station set — a lighter, more compact two-piece setup at a much lower price. See the station set guide.
  • This pairing — the closest you can get to a full casino table at home, and the setup most serious students end up with.

Ordering, Freight and Lead Time

Every set is handmade to order, so allow 10–11 weeks. Because of its size and weight the set travels by ground freight, and shipping is quoted and charged when it ships rather than at checkout — freight rates move with the destination and with fuel prices, so a flat figure would over-charge some buyers and under-charge others. Many colours are available; specify your choice when you order. Questions or phone orders: 1-866-SET-DICE.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tap any question to expand the answer.

What is the difference between this and the half craps table on its own?
This is the half table plus the Golden Touch Throwing Station — the padded regulation rail you stand at and deliver from. On its own the half table gives you the landing surface; adding the station gives you a true throwing distance to practise over, which is where a controlled throw is actually built.
Why does throwing distance matter so much?
Over a short toss the dice do not have time to express small errors in release, grip pressure or backspin — so a compressed setup can feel consistent while hiding faults that fall apart across a real casino table. Distance is a diagnostic: it shows you the problems while you still have a chance to fix them.
How much room does the pair need?
Enough to set the two pieces at a realistic throwing distance and still stand behind the rail and deliver a full stroke without shortening it. Both pieces fold or break down for storage, so the set does not have to occupy a room permanently.
Is this the same as the throwing and receiving station set?
No — that set is a lighter, more compact and much less expensive pairing built around the free-standing practice table. This pairing uses the full 4ft x 4ft half craps table with the same layout as the full-size tables, which is why Dom describes it as 98% of a real craps table.
How much assembly is involved?
The half table needs none — the legs fold out and it is ready. The throwing station assembles in under three minutes.
Do both pieces come in matching colours?
Yes — many colours are available and the pair is built to match. Specify the colour you want when you place the order, and both pieces are finished the same.
How is it shipped, and why is shipping shown as TBD?
The set travels by ground freight because of its size and weight. Freight cost varies by destination and moves with fuel prices, so it is quoted and charged when the set ships rather than guessed at checkout — that way nobody is over-charged to cover somebody else's delivery.
How long until it arrives?
Each set is handmade to order, so allow 10–11 weeks.
Is it really about half the price of a full table?
Yes. A regulation 12-foot casino craps table starts around $4,995 before freight, and needs a room that can hold twelve feet of table. The pairing gets you the great majority of that experience at roughly half the cost and a fraction of the footprint.
Will this make me a winning craps player?
Not by itself, and treat any promise otherwise with suspicion. The house edge is real and dice control is a physical skill that rewards disciplined, measured practice. What regulation equipment does is guarantee that the repetitions you put in transfer to a casino table rather than grooving a throw that only works at home.
